6 of the Best Coffee Shops in East Lansing, MI
Three in four Americans drink coffee every day. Of the ones that drink coffee, nearly half of them drink three to five cups of coffee a day. So it's highly likely that you, who are presumably an East Lansing citizen, drink coffee. However, maybe you want to try a new coffee shop or are going to move to a new, unknown area of East Lansing. If so, this article can help you find a new favorite shop. Read on to learn about six of the best coffee shops in East Lansing. You can use them for working, studying, socializing, or just drinking your favorite blend.
Blue Owl Coffee is one of the best social coffee shops. Not only is it a great place for music, but you can also have parties, weddings, graduations, and whatever fun events you want there.
Plus, there are three different locations (the others are in Reo Town and Old Town). If you fall in love with Blue Owl Coffee, you can easily find one when you're in another part of Lansing.
Drinks Offered
They offer traditional tea and coffee drinks, coffee cocktails, nitro cold brews, and sodas. They also offer vegan and dairy-free options.
Food Offered
The store also offers some nibbles. Try their sweet treats, deli sandwiches, and bagels with cream cheese.
Free Wi-Fi
As a bonus, Blue Owl is also one of many coffee shops with free Wi-Fi. Just make sure that your Internet doesn't distract you from all the fun times you can have at this place.
2. Foster Coffee Company
If you're looking for coffee shops for studying, you need to check out the Foster Coffee Company. The first floor only has a few small tables and outlets. If you go to the second story, however, you'll find plenty of outlets and seating.
Plus, the East Lansing location is located right next to a university campus. So it's fair to say that they know how to cater to students.
Drinks Offered
Foster Coffee roasts its beans, so you know you're going to get high-quality drinks. Just keep in mind that you're going to pay for that quality.
They usually have a few featured drinks and many mainstays. Besides coffee drinks, you can get teas, smoothies, pour-overs, afagatos and espresso milkshakes.
Food Offered
Foster also bakes their own baked goods, so you can get some of those tasty treats from them. They also have some wraps, oatmeal, sandwiches, and avocado toast.
3. Chapelure
Unfortunately, Chapelure isn't one of the best coffee shops for working. The small (but clean) seating area can get rather noisy. There are also very few seats next to the outlets.
The main draw of Capelure is that the place has the design of a traditional French café. The food and drinks are great too, even though they're a bit pricey.
Food Offered
The sweet treats are similar to the ones you can find in Europe. They're not overly sweet but still light and tasty.
Drinks Offered
You can get consistently good coffee across all of your visits. They also offer many fancy drinks, such as the Orange Mocha. Still, plain drip coffee is also a crowd-pleaser as well.
4. Mitten Raised
Mitten Raised is mostly known as a bakery. However, their café offers coffee alongside several of the many sweet treats that they bake. So, if you're more interested in sweet treats than coffee, Mitten Raised is your best choice.
Drinks Offered
Again, the focus of Mitten Raised is mostly on baked goods. You can get coffee here. Just don't expect it to be top-tier quality.
Food Offered
If you're looking for a tasty baked treat, Mitten Raised will likely have it for you. They have cakes, donuts, cookies, brownies, and croissants.
5. Constellation Cat Café
Yes, East Lansing has a cat café that is similar to the ones they have in Japan. However, the cats aren't loose throughout the whole café. Rather, half of the café is sectioned off for a cat room.
They have drinks too, but more importantly, they have cats! If you're missing your apartment-bound cat during the day, stop by!
Cat Room Reservation
To get into the cat room, you need to make a reservation online. Only 12 people are allowed at a time, so make sure you get your spot quickly. It only costs $14 to get in, and that price includes one drink.
Cat Adoption
The cats in the café are all available for adoption! If you're looking to adopt a cat, check out their Instagram before you go. They have up-to-date pictures of adoptable cats.
Cat Tips
Also, make sure that you tip. Anything that you tip will fund the food and supplies needed to support the rescued cats.
6. Poindexter Coffee
You can find Pountdexter Coffee inside The Graduate Hotel chain's East Lansing location. Don't worry about the café being part of a chain. It has a unique charm that makes it one in a million.
Here, you'll find a lovely 1920s aesthetic. There's also a book wall, upholstered half booths, and a pencil-inlaid coffee bar. You can also find plenty of seating and conveniently located outlets.
Drinks Offered
There are plenty of unique coffee drinks offered here. Snickerdoodle lattes are one of our top recommendations.
Food Offered
Poindexter doesn't just serve snacks and simple dishes like the other places. It also serves lunch and breakfast. So stop here if you're starving and need a good pick-me-up.
